Abstract

Methylene blue (MB) is a versatile organic dye that has been widely used in various applications, including photodynamic therapy, organic synthesis, fluorescence imaging, and cell staining. Recently, there has been interest in the solvatochromic properties of MB. In this research, we prepared two low-melting hydrophobic organic salts of MB blue, including MB oleate and MB bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonimide using ion-exchange reactions. The solvatochromic properties of these two derivatives were studied in different organic solvents, including methanol, ethanol, acetone, dichloromethane, acetonitrile, dimethyl sulfoxide, and dimethylformamide. The new compounds, particularly MB oleate showed enhanced solvatochromic properties. Significant changes in UV-Vis spectra were observed.
